Pine Tree Bark Park in jeopardy UPDATE!!!!
|
Dear Friends:
Great news comes on this Pine Tree Park update.
Commissioner Jerry Libbin as been great in helping us and OPNA to get to a consensus for
Pine tree Park. He called to a meeting on May 15th, and Roby attended. Things started a
little bit rough, but with our VP’s charm, and Commissioner Libbin’s skills to mediate, the
parties left in a much better “state of mind”, and with the commitment of meeting at the park
on Thursday 17th.
- Come back with a light meter to check the exact amount of light at dusk, and if it is necessary to add
lights, do it on form of low ones with less cost.
- Change the concrete on the parking to a more natural surface. Suggestions were bark chips, but
the final proposal should be left to the designers.
After the meeting was over, Commissioner Libbin went inside the bark
park, and spent at least 20 minutes explaining the situation to about
20 doggie owners. He didn’t do only that, he also answered every
single question that we asked him, and listened to our suggestions. At
this time, the aggressive dogs and irresponsible dog owners issue was
also discussed (next week information on this will be posted).
The next steps would be to present the project to the City Manager to
check its viability and approximated cost. Also, Commissioner Libbin
wants to attend a meeting with a larger number of members of OPNA
and hear all of their opinions. Once this is done, the project has to be
presented to the Neighborhood Affairs Committee, most likely on July’
s meeting, for its second discussion.
This meeting was completely different from the one before.
Things went much smoother as we walked the park together to
learn all points of view. We discussed the K-9 training course,
dogs off leash, the Bark Park area, lights, and parking.
Commissioner Libbin in trying to get a consensus proposed the
following:
- Contact K-9 Unit to seek the possibility to move the training course to
another place, or make it a more natural one. Also see if it is possible to be
used by dog owners as an agility training area.
- Set some time in the morning and some time in the evening an off leash
area out side of the fenced Bark Park.
Please understand that we supported this petition when dog and dog owner’s rights were in jeopardy,
therefore our main concern is to resolve Mr. Lowenstein’s points presented in his letter related to dogs. So, in
order to represent your concerns properly we need to get your input. Please e-mail us at:

- Transform the Bark Park fencing into a more natural one. Suggestions were to camouflage the fence
with bushes or shrubbery. The final design should be left to the experts.
Commissioner Libbin has been incredible in his participation on the resolution of this big issue created from
the petition for lights at Pine Tree. There are not enough words to thank him.
